Thursday, a newborn, and Etsy

This Thursday and Etsy post is all about the creature who seems to be popping up everywhere- the newborn. I feel as though I always know someone who is pregnant or who just welcomed a little one.

I don't think I could ever tire of looking for new baby gifts. All that sweetness and cozy...and although I am certainly no stranger to Target or Gymboree, there is something extra special about the handmade baby options on Etsy.

If I had my druthers, I would get all the newborns in my life a giant box filled with goodies like these....

Thursday, Hiving Out, and Etsy

hexagon necklace by cristinapires

When we started this blog - oh about two years ago (seriously? wow) - coming up with a name for ourselves was a challenge. First, we, of course, way over thought it. We wanted something whimsical, but not too whimsical. Self-referential, but not explanatory. We also wanted a name with a pretty association. So since we wanted to think of our blog as a place where the three of us would be "hanging out" and sharing our discoveries and talking like busy bees in a beehive... we decided on, well, you get it...

The added benefit of going with "Hiving Out" was all the loveliness associated with bees, beehives, and honeycombs that we hoped would shape the look of this humble little blog. And so with that aesthetic in mind, here's a "Thursday" post with so many lovely Etsy pieces that celebrate the colors, shapes, and natural beauty found in all things bee - just in case we ever wanted to dress ourselves (or dress our homes) in the theme of our blog. :)

Buzz-worthy items that we we'd love to wear:

Thursday, a taste test, and Etsy

 2011 Wall Calendar by AmyMarcella

Am I the only one who is late to the game in learning about Etsy's Taste Test? You take a quiz in which you indicate your preferences and then, like magic, Etsy tailors a gift guide suited to your tastes. It's pretty dead on and I think it's such a great way to figure out what to get those people you've been buying presents for for YEARS and feel like you are out of ideas. Here's a sample of the lovely things Etsy found for this lady...

Thursday, a Valentine's Birthday, and Etsy

This much courtesy of sarahjanestudios

This year I have truly hit the party circuit......the toddler/pre-k party circuit. We have been to quite a few fantastic soirees. It got me thinking about a Valentine-themed party for the girls with February birthdays. I started looking around on Etsy (of course) and put together a party for those maybe slightly older than the pre-k set, but still little, those gals who could appreciate a tea party filled with hearts and sugar.

This invitation is the perfect combination of Valentine and Birthday....

Some simple, but plentiful, tissue heart streamers would be all that you need to decorate for the tea party.

A fancy crown for the lady of the hour.....

and some dainty party hats for all of the honored guests.

It seems for any party to be successful you need some great activities. What a perfect time for DIY Valentines and pinwheels!
