I am not a giant fan of the 4th of July holiday hoopla- the parades are always too crowded, hot, and sticky and the fireworks, though festive, have awakened one too many babies in my care for me to truly enjoy them. I do, however, LOVE cookouts....the food, drink, and feeling of a backyard party are just the best, so for this Thursday and Etsy entry I am throwing a July 4th barbecue!

Some invitations to the folks who will come in the afternoon and stay until the sky lights up:

So I have an almost 4-year-old pondering what kind of birthday party he would like....there have been a few ideas batted around so far- robots, pirates, sea creatures. Last year it was construction trucks all the way- no waffling or doubt, but I can tell the decision will be tricky this time around.


Now if he does go in the pirate direction, then I already have the whole thing figured out! I love the illustration on these postcard invitations.

Free Valentine's Printables for the Crafty, Cheap, or Forgetful

We're all set for Valentine's Day. All of my children, already beyond my handmade-loving influence, have chosen their store-bought valentines: cute puppies and kittens (3 year old); Cherry FunDip greetings of love and hyperactivity (5-year old), and a box of (actually pretty cool) valentines that fold into paper airplanes (8 year old).

But I'm still trolling the craft blogs, admiring all of the generous free printable options for love-spreading on February 14.

And if my children won't give these to their classmates, then I'll just have to use them as valentines to my children. So there.

2010 Wall Calendar by JhillDesign


It is November now and time to start thinking about my calendar for next year. It is always a tricky purchase- so many and varied designs to choose from. I use my blackberry and a planner to keep track of the daily grind, but I always have a beautiful calendar on display- a bit of changing art in my home.
Here are some of the options I have tagged....eventually I'll narrow it down , but as you can see, it will be a tough call!


JHill Designs has an 11 x 17 wall calendar comprised of patterns representing various spots around the globe. Each month offers a gorgeous graphic representation of a spot and some tidbits of information about said destination.
